The Stripminers was born out of a Sugar Knives music video casting of Brett Anderson, vocalist for The Donnas, and Paul Stinson of the punk band The Radishes. The two musicians got to talking, writing and recording, and formed the newest duo that stands up to other powerhouse guy/girl pairings like John Doe and Exene Cervenka (X) and Jamie Hince and Alison Mossheart (The Kills). Their debut album, Movies, is packed with kick-arse, high energy tunes that get your heart racing from the first raucous chords.

What is most striking about this album is how varied the tracks are, yet they come together seamlessly to school the listener in all that’s awesome in punk, alt-country, and garage rock. We are treated to fast and furious punk-laced songs like “Unnatural Lovers” and “No Luck,” then drift over to the sultry alt-country vibe of “Better Than A Song” and “Poison in the Paint” that is reminiscent of the recent collaboration between Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. By the time you reach the title track, Movies leaves you completely spent, but with just enough energy to move your finger and tap “Repeat.”

We briefly interrupt our normal programming to bring you a special, live video of “No Luck” from our show at Pappy & Harriets Pioneertown Palace on January 7, 2012.  This was shot with one camera by our lovely and talented photographer Elizabeth Sloan using Paul’s Canon Vixia.  Not bad for a *relatively* cheapo camera!

“No Luck” was our very first single, released early in 2011, and will also appear on our forthcoming full-length debut album “Movies.”

We had so much fun after our amazing show with The Country and the Paul Chesne Band at Pappy & Harriets in January we decided to keep it rollin’.

Next up, The Viper Room on March 3 with The Country and Amanda Jo Williams!

And we hear there just may be a full-length Stripminers album soon . . . .  shhhh!

I performed with my band The Donnas, it was our first show in a long time because we were in the middle of recording at Conway studios, where days and weeks mingle and breed to create a time no clock can mess with.

Anyway, I remember the sound was crazy on stage, and I was in studio mode, ie no sun, no lights, no witnesses, so the mic stand felt like a Boa Constrictor in my grip and the audience looked like a jury. Sure enough that feeling disappeared as soon as the blurry faces became clear and I remembered that we were amongst friends and family. The show took on a life of it’s own ending in a chant “Back to the mansion! Back to the mansion!” which was a fav joke of ours at the time.

 My hope for this year is we’ll skip straight to the ‘show taking on a life of it’s own’ part, and that I’ll acquire a mansion, or the use of a mansion between now and August  27th.  I have faith in the individuals, I have trust in the whole, and I have hope for the unknown factors that toy with our temperaments daily!  Let’s make it gOOd!!”  – Brett

So after Texas Van’s invited us back again! (We have no idea what they were thinking.)

So Jessie Jo did this collaboration with Vans and they were having a line launch party and they invited us to play. We were stoked to play with Jessie and her band Guns and Joneses featuring Steve Jones and Duff Mckagan!

They also had DJ Grant and Samantha Ronson spinnning before and after the bands….so a bunch of famous people showed up like Cher and Nichole Richie and Slim Jim and and and the list goes on…and on and…..lol you get the picture.and people took pictures – while we ate Dictator-Tots and Grilled Cheeeeeese from the Grilled Cheese truck…just another night on the town kids!
